Nikki Calvano has over 25 years of experience as a training professional, manager, and practicing attorney in the federal government. She draws upon this practical experience and her expertise in law, strategic leadership, and education to meet the developmental and training needs of individual contributors, managers, teams, and executives. Grounded on action research that she has conducted, Nikki also works with organizations to evaluate, construct, and implement performance management processes and practices that realize measurable results.
Nikki focuses on assessing client needs and designing, facilitating, and evaluating programs that impact leadership behavior, with particular interest in managing performance, delegating work, engaging employees, peer coaching, leading teams, train-the-trainer, and measuring results. Given her knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and adult learning principles, she integrates competency-based instruction with facilitated case study discussions and collaborative learning activities.
During her years of government service, Nikki earned a reputation for leading successful start-up efforts and strategizing solutions to management challenges. Prior to retiring from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), Nikki was an Assistant Director in the Office of Legal Education, where she founded and led the Justice Leadership Institute; developed curriculum, designed courses, and provided instruction; supervised training teams; established the Medicaid Integrity Institute, which trains state Medicaid staff; and served as Chief of the National Bankruptcy Training Institute. She has provided leadership instruction and coaching on strategic planning, reorganization, performance management practices, and change processes at all levels of DOJ.
Earlier in her career, Nikki was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago and Kansas City, and a Trial Attorney and Special Counsel with the DOJ, Civil Division, in Washington, DC. Over the years, she led trial teams, and litigated multi-district tort cases, Title VII and False Claims Act cases, as well as health care fraud and white collar criminal prosecutions.
Nikki holds a Juris Doctor from Creighton University, a Master of Science degree in Strategic Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science Education.
A client once noted, “Nikki is high energy. She made the training relevant to our specific needs and answered all our questions.”
